The Owner's Story

Here's a really affordable replica of the world famous 1952 Jaguar XK120, built by Eagle Coach Works and finished in 2001. It's titled as a 2001 Custom, and it gives you the best of both worlds: authentic British looks with easy to maintain American mechanics.

Power comes from a 2.3 liter overhead cam Ford Mustang 4 cylinder in a very clean engine compartment, backed by a C4 automatic with a Mustang floor shifter. It has disc brakes, rack and pinion steering and a 12 volt electrical system.

The red fiberglass body will never rust. Inside it's black, with a wood steering wheel and wood dash. White wall radial tires with wire hubcaps, side wind deflectors and the Jaguar emblem on the hood finish the look, and Bob upgraded it with authentic 1952 Jaguar XK120 thick aluminum bumpers, a 5 hour install. There are no side curtains, but the top and a tonneau cover fit in the trunk. These are meant to be top down cars, and honestly they don't look right with the top up.

8,140 miles showing, with a clean Florida title in Bob Simpson's name. Listed at $18,000 cash, firm, down from $29,900. He can arrange enclosed, insured shipping to your door.

The History

Jaguar unveiled the XK120 at the 1948 London Motor Show, and it stole the show. The name came from its claimed 120 mph top speed, and in 1949 a production roadster proved it by running 132.6 mph on a closed highway at Jabbeke, Belgium, which made the XK120 the fastest production car in the world at the time. Under that long hood sat Jaguar's new 3.4 liter twin cam six, the same engine family that went on to win Le Mans and stayed in production for decades. The first roadsters were hand built with aluminum bodies before Jaguar switched to steel in 1950, and about 12,000 XK120s were built as roadsters, coupes and drophead coupes before the XK140 took over in 1954. Clark Gable was an early owner, and the shape became one of the defining looks of the postwar sports car era. Today a genuine XK120 roadster is a six figure car, which is exactly why a well made replica like this one, built by Eagle Coach Works on American running gear, is such an easy way to enjoy that shape on the road without the cost or the upkeep of the original.
